FAQ

Can I play Spotify on AirPlay 2 speakers from my Mac?

Yes, that’s what Pacifico is for. Without it, the usual way is to switch your Mac’s whole sound output to the speaker, which takes calls, videos and alerts with it. Pacifico gives Spotify an AirPlay 2 output of its own: choose Pacifico in Spotify’s Devices, pick a HomePod or Apple TV, and only Spotify moves.

Does Pacifico change my Mac’s sound output?

No. Only Spotify goes to AirPlay.

Do I still use Spotify?

Yes, exactly as before, on your Mac, iPhone or iPad. Choose Pacifico in Devices, and it carries the sound to your speaker.

Which speakers does it play to?

HomePod, HomePod mini and Apple TV over AirPlay 2, including an Apple TV that uses HomePods as its speakers.

Will it keep my HomePod busy?

No. A minute after the music stops, Pacifico lets the speaker go so others can use it, and takes it back when you press play.

What’s the difference between Free and a license?

Free is for trying Pacifico with your own speakers and network. Everything works, except that it won’t start the next song by itself. If it works well for you, a license lets your music play on without interruption.

Do I need Spotify Premium?

Yes. Spotify Connect, which Pacifico relies on, requires a Premium account.

What do I need?

A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later, and Spotify Premium.

Is Pacifico made by Spotify or Apple?

No. Pacifico is an independent product by Elcano.app.

Where does the name Pacifico come from?

In 1520, the Magellan–Elcano expedition crossed an ocean so calm they named it Mar Pacífico, the peaceful sea. The crossing that joined two worlds felt like the right name for an app that joins Spotify and AirPlay.
